The Dane won by a landslide: “Seemed a bit hopeless”

It looked like an impossible task when Kasper Asgreen only had three cyclists with him in a long breakaway on the 185 kilometer long stage.

But the Quick-Step Dane believed in it along the way.

— It was obviously not ideal. I would rather have gone with six, seven, eight men. But it’s also the last week of the tour, and we’re coming off some tough, tough weeks.

“I didn’t rule it out,” says Kasper Asgreen.

After a sprint battle, the Dane won.

— Everyone did fantastic out there. To be honest, all of us (participating in the breakout) deserved the win with the work we put in.

— But I’m really happy to win, says Asgreen.

Asgreen’s compatriot Jonas Vingegaard leads the summary in superior style.
