After the hacking of Digital Work Spaces (ENT), two brothers were arrested this Thursday, March 28 in Malakoff in Hauts-de-Seine.
According to information from BFMTV, which is based on a police source, this Thursday March 28, two brothers aged 17 and 19 were arrested this Thursday morning in the town of Malakoff in the department of Hauts-de-Seine, in Ile-de-France . These arrests took place as part of the investigation into hacking of digital workspaces (ENT) in numerous high schools and colleges in France last week. France Info indicates that the older of the two is suspected of being the author of several messages conveying threats of attacks on ENTs as well as sending a beheading video. According to the France Info source, this suspect admitted the facts.
Since March 20, around 130 schools, colleges and high schools have been targeted by terrorist threats transmitted after having suffered a hacking of Digital Workspaces. These threats were received by students but also by parents who also have access to these platforms. The authors of these hacks had also launched a phishing campaign using a fake website similar to that of the ENT. This is for the purpose of recovering data, particularly user passwords.
Following these incidents, three investigations were opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office, as detailed by France Info. A first investigation is dedicated to the threatening messages broadcast on ENT in schools in Ile-de-France on the night of March 20 to 21. The second focuses on messages sent from Tuesday 19 to Wednesday 20. The third survey focuses on other messages sent throughout France. The Paris public prosecutor’s office clarified to France Info: “It is intended to centralize the open investigations of the various public prosecutor’s offices concerning messages broadcast via the ENTs of other regional jurisdictions.”
As the media specifies, these investigations were opened for the following reasons: “attacks on an automated data processing system implemented by the State”, “threats of death or damage to property dangerous for people against a public service mission manager”, “apology of terrorism by means of an online public communication service”, “provocation to an act of terrorism”, “identity theft” and “disclosure of “false information in order to make people believe in dangerous destruction”.
