Charlotte Baris: A little over two months ago, Gabriel Attal entered Matignon. On this occasion, La Loupe discreetly invited herself to a meeting of the political department of L’Express and I remember that Olivier Peru, my colleague who follows the left and the executive, said this:

Olivier Peru: Gabriel Attal is above all and above all a pure product of Emmanuel Macron… And I say that, it is not pejorative, it is really the very incarnation of what Emmanuel Macron has done since he announced himself as a candidate before 2017… There you go, it’s really pure baby Macron juice.

Charlotte Baris: On paper, Gabriel Attal and Emmanuel Macron have a lot in common: a certain appetite for communication, a stated desire to overcome political divisions – including within their majority – and very great ambitions which have made them the youngest executive couple of the Fifth Republic. All the ingredients were therefore there for the president and his “not-yet-quite-designated heir” to get along wonderfully… But two months later, that is not really the case. For several weeks, the close circles of the two men have been agitated and the first tensions have emerged. “Macron-Attal, an inevitable rivalry” is the investigation on the front page of L’Express, which we show in La Loupe in this episode.
