The state accident commission will not investigate the ferry accident in Furusundsleden outside Norrtälje at the end of April when two people died.

According to a preliminary study, no technical faults on the ship that could have influenced the course of events have been found, and there is also nothing to indicate that the crew’s handling had or could have had any influence on the course of the accident, the accident commission writes in a press release.

A short while after a passenger car drove aboard the road ferry Merkurius and stopped at the ship’s gates, the car accelerated. It drove through the gates, over the ramp and into the water. The two people who were in the car, an elderly man and woman, died in connection with the accident.
