What has happened in the horse abuse case?

One evening in February 2024, the horse owner, who has her horse in a stable outside Helsingborg, got a shock when she saw an unknown man preying on the horse on the surveillance camera.

The following day, the man was caught in the stable, but quickly fled from there, according to the report HD – who have taken part in court proceedings.

The newspaper reports how the horse owner spoke to her neighbor who is a police officer, as she was curious to know how the police should take the reports about the man seriously. The neighbor told the pet owner to call her directly if anything happens again.

Two days later, in the middle of the night, the call came. The female police officer jumped into the car and picked up her father on the road. When they arrived at the stables, they found the 74-year-old man in one of the boxes, writes HD.

The 74-year-old threatened the police with a knife

In the movie, which The Express taken part, it is seen how the female police officer repeatedly calls out that she is a police officer, and how father and daughter pull the man out of the box.

They finally put him on the floor, but the man resists and tries to stab the officer with a knife. When a patrol arrives, the 74-year-old is formally arrested.

When interrogated, he denies everything, even though the course of events has been caught on surveillance cameras.

According to the man’s stories, he was out for a walk before he was attacked by five or six people, who he believed were sent by the home country’s regime to kill him, says HD.

The man explains that he heard the shouts, but claims that he would never have resisted if he had understood that it was Swedish police.

– What is police called in your language? asks the interrogator.

– Police… replies the 74-year-old.

When the elderly man is found, the rope and chair that he took with him to the horses are also found, Expressen writes.

When the interrogator questions him about why the chair was there, and why the surveillance footage contradicts everything he says, he has no comment.

– I have nothing to say, he replies.

According to HD, he also denied the accusations that he had performed sexual acts against any horse.

– I do not accept such an accusation, he says in court hearings.

But the horse owner does not agree, and recalls the events of the summer before the trial when she found a chair by the paddock while clear injuries from rope knots were visible on the horses’ legs. The owner also mentions that the electric wire to the paddock had been found cut around 10-15 times.

The man apparently also only broke into the horse paddock with the mare – that is, female horses – and not where the stallions were.

The man is sentenced to prison for assaulting a horse

In connection with the trial, the 74-year-old man was charged with a crime against the Animal Welfare Act, three cases of serious illegal trespass, attempted serious violence against an official, serious illegal threat and serious crime against the Knife Act, writes HD.

The district court considered that there was no doubt that the man in the photos is, de facto, the 74-year-old, and found him guilty on all counts.

The man was also deported, and is prohibited from returning to Sweden for ten years.
