It was on the afternoon of June 21, just a few days before Midsummer, as the presenter Anders “The Angry Carpenter” Öfvergård, 55, was arrested by a store inspector at Ica Maxi Värmdö just outside Stockholm. This as he only paid for two out of five pieces of meat in the self-scan.

According to the ICA manager, it was far from the first time that Anders Öfvergård missed scanning the food he bought.
In the preliminary investigation report which News24 have taken part in, a picture is painted that Anders Öfvergård was something of a work environment problem for the employees. The ICA chief believes that Öfvergård has “missed judgment” and meant “big problems”.
In the preliminary investigation protocol, it is stated that the store manager accuses Anders Öfvergård of having stolen for 10 years.
In an earlier random check during the self-scanning, Öfvergård is said to have become “aggressive, rude and unpleasant”. On another occasion, Anders Öfvergård allegedly dropped the bag with groceries in it and ran away.
It was always about expensive goods that Öfvergård forgot to blip. Including prawns and cashew nuts.

The fact that Anders Öfvergård could finally be arrested was a great relief for the ICA chief.
– They had noticed him before. The Ica trader said he was going home and celebrating with champagne because it was finally over. This is precisely because he had been so aggressive, rude and unpleasant when confronted that they were not allowed to intervene against him anymore because of the work environment. That’s how I understood it, the store controller told the police.

In the preliminary investigation report, the shop inspector told more about how it happened when he confronted Anders.
– He mentioned that he was famous and asked if we could manage this nicely. He said that what happened was a mistake. I told him exactly as it was, that the store had been suspicious of him for a long time, and that I was told to follow him without any specific suspicion of my own. He was adamant that it was a mistake, he says.

After a police patrol called to the scene had left Ica Maxi, Anders Öfvergård entered Ica Maxi again. There, when the police had left, Anders bought three pieces of meat. That’s what the shop supervisor tells in the interrogation.
– Anders went back in and bought three pieces of meat after the police left. He was nice to me and wished me a happy Midsummer, he says in questioning.
