Family parties belong to the summer and go hand in hand with cube tournaments. But how do you avoid falling into the trap where the same person wins over and over again?
There are several ways to become better than your family’s cube pro, says former world champion Fredrik Wallin. Mainly the technique lies in getting the right spin:
– When you throw the stick, it is good to make a half turn to get the best rotation. If you throw too short, it won’t do anything because then the stick will slide in and hit the cubes anyway.
In order to achieve a good throw with the angular cubes, a different technique applies.
– Then it is necessary to create a rotation so that they stay in place and do not roll away, they must cut into the lawn. The point is that they then become very collected.
But becoming the best in the world is not easy. When Fredrik and his team were elite, they trained 8 hours, three days a week. So if the family cube pro is really skilled, just start practicing.

Right now, teams from all over Europe are in Stockholm. They are fighting for the title of European cube champion. Because unlike Sweden, there are countries that take the cube game very seriously. In Switzerland, Germany and Belgium they have cube leagues and league games. There you can play a tournament every weekend during the summer.
The more controlled format means the rules are a little different.
– A basic rule that differs from the amateur game is that the cubes are never thrown out of play. But they go back and forth until all the pieces are on the opposing team’s side, then you lower the king, says organizer Carmelo Agut-Eismann.
Otherwise, the game is in many ways similar to the rules you are used to: you are not allowed to cross the baseline and helicopter drops are not allowed.
