Teenagers are sentenced after knife murder in Norrliden in Kalmar

The 15-year-old is sentenced for murder to two years and four months in closed youth care. The 16-year-old is convicted of complicity in the murder and receives two years of closed youth care. According to the court, it is proven that the 15-year-old handed out the fatal stab wounds and is therefore convicted of murder. He is deported for life.

– The perpetrators have started from a photo of the plaintiff, with whom they had no connection. The crime appears to be a contract murder, says Hans Ranholm, councilman, in a press release.

Arrested shortly after the murder

It was in October 2023 that a 23-year-old man was stabbed in Norrliden in Kalmar and later died of his injuries in hospital.

The day after the murder, the 15-year-old was arrested and a week later the 16-year-old was also arrested.

The prosecutor asked for the maximum sentence

The trial was held during February in the Kalmar district court, and there were sometimes heated feelings in the courtroom, SVT’s reporter reported.

The prosecutor then demanded four years of closed youth care, which is the maximum sentence given the boys’ age.

The district court then decided that the two teenagers would remain in custody after the end of the trial pending today’s verdict.
