Sylvester Stallone has said goodbye to Rocky and Rambo. He’s still taking on new action roles. In Samaritan he plays one aged superhero, who retired after a major defeat and now finds his work unfinished. But returning is difficult.
You shouldn’t expect a spectacular superhero blockbuster like we know it from Marvel and DC. At first glance, Samaritan is more like Unbreakable by M. Night Shyamalan. In addition, the film seems to have some of the calm tones to have copied from Logan – The Wolverine.

The story of Samaritan begins with 13-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton) who suspects that a mysterious neighbor is moving in hides a big secret. As it turns out, he’s right: Mr. Smith, played by Stallone, is actually a superhero, but long since retired.
Many years ago he was as the Samaritans of Granite City known. However, he is said not to have survived the fateful battle against his archenemy. Yet people have never given up hope that one day the Samaritan will return. Sam wants to help the failed superhero back on his feet.
