With EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel at the helm, the EU countries conference on social issues in La Hulpe, Belgium, for two days.

But there won’t be any joint declaration, at least not from everyone. Sweden is putting a stop to it, out of concern for the “Swedish model” of the labor market.

– This declaration contains questions and things that could put our model out of whack. Therefore, we have been clear that this is not something we can sign, says EU Minister Jessika Roswall (M) to TT.

The hope is that the stop will make it more difficult for the next EU Commission to come back with legislative proposals in the area after the EU elections

– For us, it is important that this does not bind the next commission. These are important issues for the national competence, says Roswall.

Whether the other EU countries will proceed with their own joint statement is still unclear.
