Again the Norwegian has Kristine Stavå’s Ski City aroused really strong feelings in Sweden. It was after Saturday night’s sprint final in Canadian Canmore that the anger was sparked.
Skistad scoffs
The Norwegian sprint specialist defeated both Maja Dahlqvist and Lynn Svahn in a sprint battle and then celebrated with a mocking gesture. Stavås Skistad sent a kiss to their rivals just after the finish line.

The 25-year-old is often quite quiet and media-shy but really loves to argue with the Swedes. Especially after she defeated them.
– Very nice to defeat the Swedes, says Skistad in Viaplay after the race and explains his victory gesture.
– I thought it was nice. It came in the heat of the moment.

But the cheeky pass has stirred up bad blood in Sweden. The atmosphere between Skistad and the Swedish skiers has already been infected, and this will further exacerbate it.

Although the riders seem to take the taunt with a shrug.
– She doesn’t say much otherwise…but, we may kiss her back, says Maja Dahlqvist to Expressen.
– Did she do that? Do I have to look at that afterwards? Everyone has their own goal gestures, says Linn Svahn about the rival’s cocky grin.
Swedish anger
The Swedish TV expert Johan Olsson also had something to say about Skistad’s victory gesture.
– It’s a bit teasing, a little hint that “you know what awaits girls”. She is really, really sharp, he says in Viaplay’s broadcast.

But the Swedish people are enraged by the total disrespect towards one’s opponents and go hard on the Norwegian on social media. Many people have contacted Kristine Stavås Skistad and are extremely annoyed.
“You’re a fantastic sprint skier… But what you’re doing is just ridiculous and lousy. You are a miserable loser and an even worse winner. You should be ashamed,” writes one user in her comment field.
“Grow up. Watch and learn from Johaug & Björgen, your role models,” writes another.
“You are showing your petty side as usual, shame on you. I wonder what Björgen and Johaug think, they are nice people,” writes a third.
