The weekend shelling that hit the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya in Ukraine has terrified the population. During the day, new shelling has been reported in the area around the nuclear power plant.
More and more people now want to be evacuated after alarms about the risks of a nuclear disaster. Allan Lilja is on site in Zaporizhzhya for the aid organization Operation Aid and testifies that their buses are far from enough to quickly evacuate the thousands of Ukrainians who want to flee.
– People really don’t understand. Thousands of people are now trying every day to escape from the area near the nuclear power plant, he says.
