Sven at Troll Station: “The first time a Boeing 787 lands in Antarctica”

Aviation enthusiasts recognize the Boeing 787 as a little brother to the 777 model that often appears on long-haul flights. It is a medium-sized plane with its up to 68 meters. But in Antarctica, the Boeing 787 is the largest plane ever to land in the frozen landscape.

According to reports, the plane took off in Oslo on 13 November and then stopped in Cape Town before finally landing on the 3,000 meter frozen runway on 15 November.

According to Sven Lidström, the landing means great environmental benefits in terms of deliveries to Troll Station.

– Heavy deliveries have previously been sent by boat, then you had to plan the delivery a year in advance, he says.
