Before the start of the season, the hockey NHL forbade players from taping their sticks with colors related to theme nights.

Before the start of the hockey NHL season forbade players from taping the blades of their rackets with tapes related to theme nights.

Even before this, the league said in June that it would give up wearing themed shirts during warm-ups. One of the most pressing reasons that influenced the policy was that some of the players objected to wearing the Pride shirt, which supports sexual and gender minorities.

In the past, in the NHL warm-ups, for example, terrain patterns and the color pink have been used. These colors have been used to show support for the military and cancer patients. At the same time, however, the NHL expects the clubs to hold themed nights.

In June, Edmonton Oilers’ Canadian forward, three times chosen as the best player of the season Connor McDavid stated being disappointed with the league to the decision. McDavid stated that he likes themed nights and especially emphasized the Pride theme.

On Tuesday, McDavid criticized the NHL’s tape ban. He said he hopes the tape ban goes away one day.

– I have commented on the matter before. I think everyone knows what I think about it, McDavid said to the Canadian media According to CTV News.

Marchand criticized the bans

Also a star player for the Boston Bruins Brad Marchand comment on the ban on tapes suitable for theme nights on Tuesday. He noted according to the US media CBSthat players must have the right to support who or what they want.

– But if you are forced to do something you don’t want to do – or are forbidden to do something you believe in… There must be a solution without tension, Marchand said.

He also stated that it would be nice for him to show his support for different things and different people on themed nights. However, he feels that no one is a winner in the dispute related to theme nights.

– I understand both parties. It’s unfortunate that we can’t agree on some things.

Marchand also stated that the NHL should not push political agendas, but continued at the same time that players should have the right to support causes that are important to them.

– It’s unfortunate that when (a player) tries to do what he thinks is the right thing, he gets a lot of criticism one way or another, Marchand said.
