Taking time for yourself when you are the parent of a child affected by diabetes is not easy. But a platform could change the situation: it connects parents who need to take some time off and babysitters who have personal knowledge of diabetes treatment. An association to know on this World Diabetes Day.

Entrusting your children to others is sometimes necessary, whether to keep an appointment, or simply to have time for yourself. Parents of diabetic children experience other realities that often prevent them from moving away from the family nest.

Parents of children with diabetes spend 35 hours per month managing care

Type 1 diabetes is a juvenile autoimmune disease that is regularly detected during childhood, around the age of 7. It is characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, requiring constant insulin injection and monitoring of blood sugar levels.

Consequently, families spend nearly 35 hours per month managing their child’s technical care, in addition to school monitoring, management of treatment stocks, medical appointments, etc. The mental load is pressing day and day. night. Having your child looked after to balance your professional, social or romantic life is more than necessary. But who can replace you with the child?

    Connect parents and expert babysitters

It is to respond to this problem which affects more and more families (type 1 diabetes represents 19.1 cases per 100,000 in children in France, and remains constantly increasing) that Adeline Roger, mother of a boy type 1 diabetic has designed a platform that would help parents in need. In 2020, she founded La Tribe des Supers, a site that connects parents of diabetic children looking for occasional care, with super-sitters, babysitters who know the treatment protocols, through their personal history, because they are affected by diabetes themselves or are parents or close friends of a diabetic person. From 16 to 65 years old, babysitters are selected based on their knowledge of protocols.

Today, the structure operates throughout France and is part of a recruitment and fundraising dynamic in 2024. A great initiative, little known, which could relieve many parents.
