The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan announced Thursday, July 13 at the United Nations Security Council the opening of an investigation into possible new “war crimes” in Darfur. According to the court, the escalation of violence in the country after three months of conflict arouses “great concern” and the ICC wants to prevent “history from repeating itself”: in the early 2000s, the civil war in Darfur killed 300,000 people.
