Subject of SI at the baccalaureate (specialty): what to expect?

Subject of SI at the baccalaureate specialty what to expect

SUBJECTS IF. Some candidates for the 2023 baccalaureate will take the engineering science specialty test (SI) on March 20 and 21. What are the possible subjects and how does the exam take place?

The month of March will end with the specialty tests for high school students in Terminale. June is still far away, but it is already time to dive into the atmosphere of the 2023 baccalaureate. However, we are starting gently with only two tests for candidates for the baccalaureate, those concerning the subjects studied in a speciality, in the year of Première and Terminale. High school students who love science and innovation have no doubt chosen to take the engineering science course (SI), now it’s up to them to show their abilities and all of their knowledge. Candidates will have four hours Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 March to work on their subject of IS. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in mainland France and Mayotte and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the DROM-COM. It goes without saying that the subjects will be different from one day to the next to avoid any attempt at cheating between the candidates.

Unsurprisingly, purely scientific subjects await high school students, but the National Education has specified that the SI specialty tests at the baccalaureate will only relate to themes included in the Terminale program. The fact remains that the notions addressed in engineering sciences are numerous with, in addition, themes that focus on complements to the physical sciences. Also the SI specialty written test is divided into two parts: one half on pure SI and another half on knowledge in physical sciences which take up part of the physics-chemistry program. If each counts for 20 points, the first is coefficient 12, when the second is only coefficient 4.

In addition to the lessons and the experiments carried out during the lessons, candidates for the SI specialty test for the baccalaureate can use the answers and subjects from previous years to practice before the exam. This gives an idea of what to expect on the day of the test and more to get an idea of its level. Linternaute gives you direct access to a proposed answer key for the SI 2022 specialty baccalaureate subject. An associate professor is responsible for writing the answers and developments expected during the test to deliver a complete and detailed answer key exam for baccalaureate candidates.

Impossible to know in advance the subjects that will fall during the engineering sciences specialty test for the baccalaureate. But high school students can be sure that there will be no surprises. The Ministry of National Education has specified the topics that can be included in the test. As for the SI part, here are the topics to review:

  • In the game “Analyze” the high school student must know how to study: the reversibility of an element of the power chain; analyze information processing; the behavior of an object from a discrete event description; characterize the information exchanges of a system with a communication network; the behavior of a servo system; analyze experimentation and simulation results; search for the causes of the observed performance deviations and validate the models established to describe the behavior of an object.
  • In the game “Model and solve” he must be able to: translate an algorithm into an executable program; associate a model with a servo system; use the laws and relationships between the effort and flow magnitudes to develop a knowledge model; determine the mechanical actions (static unknowns of connections or external mechanical action) leading to the static equilibrium of a mechanism, a work or a structure; determine the flux quantity (linear or angular velocity) when the mechanical actions are imposed; determine the magnitude of the effort (force or torque) when the desired movement is imposed and quantify the performance of a real or imagined object by solving the equations that describe the theoretical operation.

As for the second part of the SI specialty test, the high school student must master all the items of the themes “Movement and interactions” And “Energy: conversions and transfers” in addition to the following notions in the chapter “Waves and signals”:

  • Characterize wave phenomena (only the following parts):
  • Sound intensity, reference sound intensity, sound intensity level. Attenuation (in dB)
  • Diffraction of a wave by an aperture: observation conditions and characteristics. Diffraction characteristic angle
  • Interference of two waves, observation conditions. Constructive interference, Destructive interference

The results of the SI specialty test will be available on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the same time as the results of the other tests (French, philosophy and major oral). The fact that the specialty lessons are examined earlier does not influence the publication of the results.
