In an interview with SVT, Minister of Economic Affairs Ebba Busch says that Sweden needs more mines to cope with the green transition and become more self-sufficient.
The EU also wants more mines to be opened in Europe to reduce dependence on imports from mainly China. At the same time, many municipalities in Sweden have started to say no to new mines.
In the municipality of Storuman, there are plans for mines in both Kyrkberget and Rönnbäcken. As far as the fluorite mine in Kyrkberget is concerned, both the county administrative board and Bergsstaten have said no, and the government has the last word there.
