Stollos has a bad reputation in Pokémon GO – why?

Stollos has long been a Pokémon that many trainers sent into important battles in Pokémon GO by default – much to the annoyance of other players. Why?

What kind of Pokémon is this? Stollos comes from the third generation of games and belongs to the steel and rock types. It evolves from Stollunior and Stollrak.

The monster is a kind of steel dinosaur and doesn’t look exactly harmless. You wouldn’t be surprised if it was an extremely strong attacker in Pokémon GO.

But it is not.

In fact, Stollos can take a lot, but can hardly dish it out. Numerous other monsters surpass him in terms of attack power – both rock and steel types. Neither his attack value nor his move set are suitable for being particularly effective in raids.

Nevertheless, for a long time you constantly saw trainers sending Stollos into battle. And that gave him a bad reputation.

Why many trainers sent Stollos into battle

Why did trainers use Stollos in raids? When you start a raid in Pokémon GO, the game suggests a team for the fight. And for a long time, Stollos was one of the Pokemon that was suggested a lot.

However, this was mainly due to the fact that it can offer a lot of defense and therefore lasts for a long time. But when it comes to dealing damage, it has clear weaknesses compared to other Pokémon.

The strong endurance actually becomes a problem, because as long as Stollos is active, less damage is done than better attackers could do.

In very crowded raid lobbies, this isn’t a big problem, as other trainers may be able to handle it. But especially when you go into a raid with just a few players, the right team composition can be crucial. And with Stollos you are basically always wrong – even if the game itself suggests it.

Is there an exception? Only to a limited extent: Stollos has a mega evolution that gives up the rock type and only functions as a steel monster. But: It is still outpaced in terms of damage by monsters like Dialga, Metagross and Crypto-Stalobor.

However, it can be useful in exceptional cases, as Mega Stollos boosts other steel attacks. Assuming you play with other trainers who all send strong steel attackers into battle, then Mega-Stollos can boost them and contribute to your success.

Overall, unfortunately, Stollos is usually not a good choice for attack.
