Stina Nilsson’s honest words about the big change – being forced to make a drastic decision: “Absolutely uncomfortable”

Stina Nilsson wants revenge after the disappointment last season.
Therefore, she is forced to make a drastic decision.
– It is absolutely uncomfortable, she tells SVT.

Stina Nilsson took big steps forward during her first time as a biathlete. As a cross-country skier, she was one of the world’s absolute best and fastest, and many thought she would have a playhouse with the biathletes in her tracks. And initially it looked brilliant for Nilsson, who quickly got the chance in the World Cup.

The big change

But last winter was a big setback. Stina Nilsson was often far behind in the field when it came to riding time, while she struggled with the shooting. Nilsson was during large parts of the season poked in the World Cup, and was also not allowed to compete in the WC. But now she is looking for revenge.

Nilsson is aware that it was not good enough, neither for her nor for what the national team wants to see from her. Nilsson wants to compete in the World Cup, and not the IBU Cup.

– It was very tough, I didn’t get what I had dreamed of in advance at all, says Stina Nilsson to SVT.

“Absolutely uncomfortable”

But ahead of next season, Nilsson has made a big change that will hopefully bring results. National team coach Johannes Lukas has found a trend in Nilsson that she should get rid of. In cross-country skiing, competitions are often decided early in the day. In biathlon, on the other hand, afternoon competitions are more common. Since the shift, Nilsson has continued to get up early, which Johannes Lukas now wants to change.

– I am an early riser, so my day is incredibly much longer than everyone else’s. But as a biathlete there is no advantage to getting up early, says Stina Nilsson.

During the summer and autumn, Nilsson therefore added more training sessions in the afternoons, and also tried to take morning naps a little more often. However, it is something that Nilsson didn’t just love.

– It doesn’t come naturally to me, so it’s absolutely uncomfortable, but the more I’ve had to practice it, the better it gets, says Stina Nilsson.
