Steam Does Not Support Older Windows Versions Due to Security

Steam’s change is due to the fact that the platform’s core features are based on the Google Chrome engine, which does not work on older Windows versions. Future versions require security features that are only available in Windows 10 and above.

Steam cuts support for Windows 7

Windows 7 users should switch to Windows 10 or a newer operating system as soon as possible to play games on Steam and benefit from all the features of the platform. Microsoft had already discontinued security updates for Windows 7 in January 2020. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are now considered insecure operating systems because these versions cannot protect against new threats. This may compromise the security of user computers and Steam accounts.

Therefore, users should upgrade to Windows 10 or newer to protect their security and their Steam experience. Otherwise, malware that will use vulnerabilities in their systems may cause serious problems.
