At the end of November, the municipality announced that the Utrecht resistance heroine Truus van Lier will be given an official monument. There is already a street named after her in the city and there is a flower monument; her name is spelled annually with daffodils along the Catharijnesingel.

Van Lier was a student from Utrecht who worked for the resistance during the Second World War as a courier and arms smuggler. On September 3, 1943, at the age of 22, she shot and killed the NSB chief commissioner of the police, Gerardus Johannes Kerlen, in the center of Utrecht with two shots. A few weeks later she was betrayed. She was eventually executed in Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

Earlier this week, a book about the Utrecht resistance heroine was also published, written by journalist and historian Jessica van Geel.
