The South Korean armed forces have described Monday’s launches as a blatant provocation.

The leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un was supervising a military exercise on Monday that simulated a counterstrike by nuclear weapons, state media KCNA said on Tuesday.

South Korea’s armed forces announced on Monday that the northern neighbor had launched several short-range ballistic missiles. Japan also confirmed the launches.

According to KCNA, in Monday’s exercise, rockets had been launched that had hit their island targets about 350 kilometers away. Kim is said to have expressed her satisfaction.

South Korea’s military said on Monday that the missiles had flown about 300 kilometers from the Pyongyang area before landing in waters east of the Korean peninsula. South Korea’s armed forces described the launches as a blatant provocation.

According to a representative of the Japanese administration, one missile had traveled at its highest point of about 50 kilometers and landed outside the country’s economic zone.

It was the second missile launch in less than a week. According to South Korea, cruise missiles were launched from North Korea last Friday. According to North Korean state media, a very large warhead designed for a strategic cruise missile had been tested on Friday.

We are afraid of weapons sent to Russia for testing

In March, North Korea’s ally Russia used its veto right in the UN Security Council and effectively stopped the UN’s monitoring of North Korea’s sanctions violations related to sanctions targeting North Korea’s nuclear weapons and weapons programs.

Experts have warned that North Korea may be testing missiles before sending them to Russia for use in Ukraine. The United States and South Korea say North Korea has already supplied weapons to Russia, although UN sanctions prohibit that activity.

According to South Korea, the country’s northern neighbor has sent around 7,000 containers of weapons to Russia.

The largely isolated state has recently strengthened its military relations with Russia and stepped up its missile tests.

Last year, North Korea conducted a record number of missile tests.
