Starr Gallery unveiled at Lynnwood Arts

The children of community champion Starr Demeyere recently unveiled the newly-named Starr Gallery in honor of their mother to a packed house at Lynnwood Arts.

Kristy and Derek Demeyere did the unveiling on April 20.

A campaign was launched just over a year ago to raise $250,000 in support of the gallery space with a majority of the funds endowed with the Norfolk Community Foundation “to ensure a sustainable source of funding in perpetuity for Lynnwood Arts,” said Kim Shippey, executive director.

“We are celebrating the legacy of one of Norfolk County’s biggest supporters of the arts and Lynnwood,” said Shippey. “Starr Demeyere was an outstanding champion of this arts center as a board member, volunteer and donor. We are beyond thrilled to be able to honor Starr with this newly-named space at Lynnwood Arts.”

All funds raised will support the activities and programming that takes place within the Starr Gallery.

Demeyere, along with her husband, Doug, died tragically in a house fire in 2015.

“Our family is excited that the Lynnwood Arts Center board of directors has decided to recognize my mom with this great honour,” Derek Demeyere said earlier. “She was a great supporter of all community programs, including the arts, sports, education and our local hospital.

“She believed that it was important to give back to the community that she loved and made sure if there was something to be done she was involved.”
