The new Rey adventure is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, her character first female director, which brings a film from the star saga to the cinema. Earlier this year she spoke about her Star Wars involvement:

I’m really looking forward to the project because I have the feeling that we will create something very special. We are in the year 2024 and it’s about timethat a woman creates a story in a galaxy far, far away.

Rogue Squadron, a Star Wars film from Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, was previously announced. The but is now on ice again. Now Obaid-Chinoy can show off her talent. She most recently worked on the Marvel series Ms. Marvel. Before that, she worked as a filmmaker in the documentary sector. Ridley told Variety she was very impressed with her Star Wars vision:

[Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoys] Documentaries are great. Your idea for the story [des Rey-Films] is damn cool. No spoilers, but she gave me an outline of the whole plot. If it wasn’t good, I would have said, ‘Okay, call me again in five years.’ But it’s worth it.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is currently working on the script for the Rey film. Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) and Justin Britt-Gibson (Banshee) were previously involved in the project. Now we can look forward to seeing what surprises the next Skywalker chapter will bring. According to rumors it could well-known characters like Finn to return. However, nothing is official about it yet.

When does Star Wars 10 with Daisy Ridley start in cinemas?

As of now, Lucasfilm has not set a theatrical release date for the Rey film. Filming is scheduled to start this year. At the moment it seems likely that we won’t see Daisy Ridley until… December 2026 will be seen again with a yellow lightsaber in his hand. Before that, The Mandalorian & Grogu could hit theaters in May 2026.

Additionally, two other Star Wars films are actively in development. Ahsoka mastermind Dave Filoni should have one big crossover film to the cinema, which brings together all the series from the Mandoverse. Meanwhile, Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold tells the story of the beginnings of the Jedi and the Force.
