Daniels Ståhl’s attitude in Hungary is clear: one thing at a time, don’t think about anything more than that.
For the 30-year-old, it was mainly about securing the WC final, either via a throw longer than the qualification limit of 66.50 meters or being among the top twelve.
The task was not easy, but still controlled.
The Swede launched his first throw at 64.58 and then increased to 66.25 before finishing at 64.99.
And just 66.25 was enough for the final.
“I made fairly calm throws,” he says.
— My goal was to make it to the final and now it’s just rock’n’roll.
Ståhl is thus in the medal fight – just as national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist was hoping for ahead of the championship.
Then she painted three Swedish medalists: Armand Duplantis in the pole vault, the walker Perseus Karlström and just Ståhl.
Karlström earlier on Saturday secured silver in the 20 km and plans to chase further medals in the 35 km which will be decided on Thursday.
Daniel Ståhl’s discus colleague Simon Pettersson, who has had a poor season, secured the final with 63.93, on the last throw.
— It has been a tough summer and I knew it was 50/50 if it would work out. I am extremely satisfied and satisfied with how it went, says Pettersson.
