Staff were chased with a knife in Gothenburg – shot in the leg by police

On Sunday evening just before midnight, the police were alerted by the staff in a refinery at Hisingen in Gothenburg, due to a man breaking into the premises and starting to chase the staff with a knife.

Staff were able to secure themselves by locking themselves in. No one in the staff was physically injured, the police write on their website.

Via cameras, the police could then see the man walking around the premises with a knife and hammer.

When the police arrived at the scene, the man lunged at the officers with the hammer and the police sprayed him with pepper spray. When this did not help, live fire was fired which hit the man in one of the legs.

The shooting will be investigated

The man was awake and talking when he was taken to hospital by ambulance a little later.

A preliminary investigation has been launched regarding grossly illegal threats – and more criminal classifications may be added according to the police.

As regards the police’s use of the service weapon, it will be investigated separately according to routine.
