Spotify wants employees to work at night – moving from Sweden

Spotify wants employees to work at night moving from

In January 2023, Spotify applied for permission from the Swedish Work Environment Authority to allow staff to continue working during the night, reportsBreak it. The reason was that their employees could be on site in case of emergency or special events. The Swedish Work Environment Agency said no to the music company’s request and Spotify are not completely satisfied with the answer. As a solution to the problem, the company now wants to move its operations abroad, in order to circumvent the regulations of the Norwegian Working Environment Agency.

Spotify can move operations abroad

After the Swedish Work Environment Agency denied the application, Spotify chose to appeal the decision, but without success. The authority instead asked Spotify to stop night work and start signing collective agreements. Now the company plans to appeal the decision once more, but also possibly move parts of the business abroad.

– I think that the alternative for us, unfortunately, is to probably have to put part of the on call service in another territory, says the CEO Daniel Oak to the staff according to Break it.

Ek is clear that this is not what the company wants, but it must be an emergency solution if they do not succeed in contesting the Work Environment Agency’s requirements.

– We do not want to do that, to be very clear, and we will contest this as far as we can.
