Speeldoos Baarn receives a quarter of a million to survive, but no plan for the future: ‘I’m afraid it’s not enough’

Speeldoos Baarn receives a quarter of a million to survive

Tom van der Poel had hoped that the municipal council would give him the opportunity to quickly develop a realistic plan for De Speeldoos with a few expert civil servants. The current municipal building is exhausted and expensive to use. Moreover, it no longer meets the requirements of a modern theater. For example, the stage lacks a circulation, the artists’ foyer is adjacent to the touring loading platform and the rooms are not soundproof, so they cannot be rented out at the same time. According to all parties, the De Speeldoos team is doing its best, but for higher yields and lower costs, a thorough, sustainable renovation is necessary.
