Sophie Delaroche, wedding dress designer for a day and forever

Sophie Delaroche, founder of Atelier Emélia, tells us how everything is designed to sublimate the bride with originality, elegance and French know-how. Sophie Delaroche maintains the family know-how and innovates with new projects in the world of marriage.

Creation comes from a desire, from a journey, but it comes above all from a fabric. The vision, the touch of a fabric immediately gives us a desire for dress, a dress spirit. It can also be a meeting, for example we have clients with specific requests, if this personal desire corresponds to our desire of the moment, we will make her dress, it will then become a dress from our collection.

Sophie Delaroche, founder of Atelier Emélia.

Atelier, because it is the heart of our company. This is where everything happens, where everything has always lived. A workshop with the noise of machines, the rustling of fabrics, the particular smell of a clothing workshop. Emélia is the first name of my great-grandmother, the first seamstress in the family. »

Alambra, Timeless collection

Sophie Delaroche fell into the tiny “wedding dress” pot. Atelier Emélia is her family story. A story of women that is passed on from mothers to daughters.

I wanted us to become what we really are, seamstresses, creators, craftsmen »

After having been at the top in the field of wedding dresses, with five factories in the world, the brand has filed for bankruptcy. This dramatic experience ended the old brand and Sophie Delaroche restarted with a craft business model in 2016.

We left very small. Very quickly, we re-opened our historic shop in Nemours. We are fortunate to have a workshop nestled in the heart of an old cloister that became a mill in the 18th century, we have an extraordinary working environment in Nemours, our little Venice in the Gâtinais. »

We immediately wanted to start exporting again and have resellers in Europe and around the world, it’s part of our DNA. I feared disaffection because we had changed our business model. I wanted us to become what we really are, seamstresses, creators, craftsmen », explains the founder of Atelier Emélia.

We are going to rework the linen wedding version »

Sophie Delaroche, who assumes the role of conductor, wants to innovate with materials, including the most unexpected. His goal: to be the first craftsman to make wedding dresses in linen, eco-responsible and organic.

Linen is a bit difficult material, we imagine it a bit crumpled. We are going to rework the wedding version linen. We will apply an ecological treatment to it to smooth it, we will have it embroidered with linen laces. We must reinvent linen or divert its use for the wedding dress. »

It will be embroidery, lace and necessarily very romantic », concludes Sophie Delaroche.
