Frank Schätzing’s ecological sci-fi thriller The Swarm became a massive bestseller upon its release in 2004, garnering attention around the world. Now the book became a series The swarm filmed, one of the most expensive international-German co-productions. Sci-fi thriller on ZDF: The swarm makes the seas strike back In the series The swarm suddenly become more common worldwide disturbing phenomenathat belong more in a sci-fi movie than reality: Great fish migrations are massing off South America, orcas attack tourist boats off Canada’s west coast, lobsters ooze a strange substance in a French restaurant kitchen, and deep in the Sea off Scandinavia unprecedented worms are found.

But it takes a while until scientists as diverse as Dr. Sigur Johanson (Alexander Karim), doctor Céline Roche (Cécile de France), whale researcher (Joshua Odjick) and doctoral student Charlie Wagner (Leonie Benesch) recognize similarities between their marine observations: Apparently someone or something is coordinating the ocean creatures to rise up against the people.
The series creators of The Swarm around Game of Thrones producer Frank Doelger promised computer-animated ones in advance show values “at Marvel level”. In addition, the ensemble consists of German names such as Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, Barbara Sukowa and Oliver Masucci as well as international cast members such as Krista Kosonen and Takehiro Hira.
