Snowfall on the way – SMHI issues yellow warning

Snowfall is approaching in several parts of the country and SMHI has issued a yellow warning for snowfall which applies from Sunday to Monday. It is warned, among other things, of limited accessibility on roads and rrisk of delays in bus, train and air traffic.

Heavy snowfall is expected in northern Västra Götaland County, parts of Jönköping County and Östergötland County as well as southernmost Örebro County during Sunday evening and will continue in a southeasterly direction where the situation may intensify, according to SMHI.

– Locally there can be around a decimetre of snow, but locally we can see 15 centimetres, says Peter Kondrup, meteorologist at TV4 Nyheterna.

The snowfall can cause major problems in traffic and there are warnings, among other things, of slippage, slush, poor visibility and snow drifts as well as limited access on roads that have not had time to be plowed.

The snowfall is expected to continue during Monday – but then the cold will come instead.

– When this moves away, it clears up and really cold air comes down to minus 15-20 degrees in southern Sweden, says Peter Kondrup.
