Smartphone sales Samsung becomes world number 1 again

After being taken first place among smartphone manufacturers in 2023, Samsung is taking its revenge on Apple following the fall in iPhone sales.

According to the research firm IDC, Samsung would once again be the leader in sales of smartphones over the first quarter of 2024. The Korean manufacturer is benefiting in particular from a drastic drop of almost 10% in sales ofiPhone worldwide. Samsung, for its part, only sees its sales drop by 0.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

You have to go down to third and fourth place to finally find positive results. Xiaomi is enjoying very good growth at the start of 2024 with more than 33% growth compared to its results from last year. This can be explained in particular by its multiple releases such as the Xiaomi 14 series and the Redmi Note 13 which benefit from excellent feedback from users and the specialized press.

In fourth place, we find the firm Transsion and its incredible growth of 84.9%. If this name doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s completely normal. The Chinoisre brand operates primarily in Africa where several of its subsidiaries achieve excellent sales and establish themselves as references in their field. The brand notably takes the place of OPPO (which lost 8.5% of sales compared to last year) in this ranking.

These overall figures still remain encouraging with growth of 7.8% in the smartphone market over the first quarter of the year. After numerous declines in sales following the Covid-19 crisis, the smartphone market seems to be slowly recovering across the world.
