Also Tuesday, SLEP parted ways with Dan Taylor, who took over as SLEP CEO in mid-2022she said, calling the decision “mutual.”

“He has a number of other projects and positions that he’s looking at,” she said.

The board thanked Taylor and wished him well in a release.

“We’re excited to move forward in the new year with Matthew as interim (CEO),” Lee said.

Slotwinski said he’s excited for the opportunity.

He credited Taylor, an economic developer in Innisfil, Peterborough and Prince Edward County before coming to Sarnia, with making “tremendous” contributions to the organization.

“I appreciate the contributions that he’s made in guiding the future strategic direction of the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership,” he added.

Slotwinski, who’s been with SLEP for 13 years, said his current focus is on implementing its recently created economic development strategy.

“There’s a huge opportunity in Sarnia-Lambton as it relates to investment, job creation and ultimately the retention and expansion of our current industrial base,” he said. “We have a tremendously eager team to work towards the ongoing betterment of the Sarnia-Lambton area.”

The board hasn’t committed to a process for finding its next permanent chief executive, Lee said. “We kind of want to see what happens next.”

“Matthew has a lot of experience,” has been “a key part” of building the strategic plan, and is a “great leader,” she said.

The board will likely take about six months “to figure out what the next step is,” she added.

“I think it gives us that time to really make the right decision and the right plan for the organization in the future.”
