Sierra Leone declares curfew amid unrest gunmen attack barracks

The instability of Sierra Leone, located in West Africa, is increasing. The government assures that the situation is under control.

Located in West Africa, Sierra Leone, with a population of 7.5 million, is a poor but relatively stable country.

However, tensions are increasing. The government of Sierra Leone has declared a curfew in the capital, Freetown, after a group of gunmen broke into the barracks and weapons depot at the Wilberforce base in the early hours of the morning.

According to the government, the situation is under the control of the security forces. Minister of Information Chernor Bah said the intrusion attempt has been repelled. He urged citizens to stay inside.

In Sierra Leone, the atmosphere is tense with the president Julius Maada Bio after the re-election in June. At least six police officers and thirty civilians died in the summer riots.

In Sierra Leone, the coups seen elsewhere in Central and West Africa have been avoided.

Sierra Leone is recovering from a long civil war that lasted from 1991 to 2002. The country also suffered from Ebola, which spread in West Africa. The virus that causes hemorrhagic disease claimed the lives of almost 30,000 people.
