Shooting in Rotterdam at least two people killed

The police have arrested a 32-year-old local man suspected of being the shooter.

At least two people have been killed in two shootings in Rotterdam on Thursday, local police say, according to the Reuters news agency.

The authorities did not say the exact number of casualties so far, because they will first inform the relatives of what happened. There is also little information on the number of injured.

The suspected shooter has been caught. He is a 32-year-old man from Rotterdam, the police say.

Authorities do not believe that other shooters are involved in the incident.

Started fires

According to the police, the suspect started shooting in a residential building on Thursday afternoon.

After this, he moved to the local Erasmus teaching hospital in military clothes. In both places, he started fires, which were quickly extinguished.

There is little confirmed information about what happened inside the hospital. The footage obtained by from the scene shows people streaming out of the hospital and the police advancing inside.

So far, there is no information about the motive of the suspected perpetrator. According to the police, the man was a student at the university where the attack took place.

On Thursday, the Erasmus teaching hospital asked people not to come to the hospital. The police are currently going through the hospital premises looking for possible victims.

Authorities are scheduled to hold a news conference about the shooting later in the evening.
