There is currently a large police operation in Uppsala. At 19:00 on Thursday evening, the police received a call about a suspected dangerous object outside.

The national bomb disposal team has arrived at the scene and the object in question is still considered to be sharp, the police write on their website.

The police came to the scene with a large number of patrols, due to the suspicious object. The site was cordoned off and residents were asked to stay indoors and to stay away from police cordons.

The police are investigating the incident as an attempt to cause public destruction and the Act on Flammable and Explosive Substances.

VMA issued in connection with the event

At 9 p.m., a VMA, important public notice, was issued in connection with the incident.

“A suspected dangerous object has been found on Albert Engströms gata in Gränby, Uppsala. For their own safety and to facilitate the work of the police, the public in the immediate area is asked to stay indoors. For more information, listen to Sweden’s Radio P4 Uppland,” the message says.

The police want people within a kilometer radius to stay indoors.

– There are a lot of people moving around, both residents of the houses that we want to stay inside and others who move on the street. We want people who are within 1,000 meters of the object to stay indoors, says Magnus Jansson Clarin, press spokesperson at police region Mitt to TT.

At 10:30 p.m., the police wrote on their website that the National Bomb Squad would immediately detonate the dangerous object.

Residents nearby were asked to stay away from windows and doors. People in the vicinity were asked to cover their ears.
