Several have walked through the ice in Luleå and the police are warning

During Sunday, several people walked through the ice in the Luleå area.
Now the region is warning the public to venture out onto the ice.
– It is associated with danger to life to go out on the ice right now, says Erika Hubertsdotter of the internal ambulance management.

The first alarm reached the police early in the morning. Within a few hours, two women had walked through the ice in Bensbyn outside Luleå.

– There is a bridge where it is popular to skate, says police spokesperson Elin Andersson to TV4 Nyheterna.

The women escaped without injury.

“Has gone well for everyone”

Later in the morning, the police received another alarm. This time two boys had walked through the ice in the same area. They too were able to get out of the water themselves and escaped unharmed.

After the accidents, the police, ambulance and rescue services have warned people in the Luleå region to go out on the ice.

– It has gone well for everyone, but you should probably be careful. We think you have to be very careful, says Elin Andersson.

Appealing to the public

Region Norrbotten has written about today’s accidents in a post on Facebook.

“Internal ambulance management, SOS Alarm and the Rescue Service appeal to the public not to go out on the ice around Luleå,” it says.

The internal ambulance management also warns that not respecting the ice can be a danger to life.

– We have had several drowning incidents. It is associated with danger to life to go out on the ice right now, says Erika Hubertsdotter at the internal ambulance management in a statement.
