Building a house with just a screwdriver and recycled materials might sound like science fiction. And yet this is the bet that Multipod Studio has set itself with the Popup House. Discover in video the flash assembly of this house in the south of France.

Among the principles dedicated toself buildthe framework drink offers many advantages including reducing the time of construction. To go further in the process, the founders of Gablok transposed the famous game of Danish construction on the scale of a house. Result of isolated wooden blocks composed of a structure in OSB enclosing an insulating cube in expanded polystyrene graphite 264 millimeters thick. To cover all construction needs, the basic block is available in three formats (30 x 30 x 30 cm, 60 x 30 x 30 cm, 90 x 30 x 30 cm) and comes in different modules (block of departure, lintel, chevron…). Displaying on the scale a weight of 7.5 kilos, this block is twice as light as a hollow block of 50 x 20 x 20 cm.

Resistant construction elements

Designed for the exterior and interior walls of a two-storey house, these building blocks display a resistance to the pressure 150 kN/m2. However, with a span of 4.80 meters (without intermediate beam) the elements of floor can support a load of 250 kg/m2. Enough to consider the construction of an additional floor. Prior to any construction, the assembly plan is drawn up by the manufacturer from those executed by a architect. After validation of a 3D sketch, the blocks are manufactured and then sent to the construction site. Using blueprints and a code color precise, the assembly is carried out quickly. It remains for the future owners to install the exterior joinery, the roofand get down to the finishing touches…

Innovative and recyclable construction elements, Gablok is aimed at good do-it-yourselfers wishing to embark on self-construction. Easy to handle, these blocks, whose dimensions are standardized, do not require special lifting equipment. Finally, they receive all types of finishes indoors and outdoors (roughcast, siding…).

What you must remember

  • The cost of a construction, for the shell only is 250 €/m2.
  • The blocks are made in the country of residence of the house in order to promote the short circuit.
  • A screwdriver and a mallet are enough to assemble these blocks.
