Sebastian Samuelsson’s new success at the World Cup – but the victory is snuffed out by the Norwegians after huge drama

Sebastian Samuelsson won the chase start in Östersund.
He followed that up with a third place in the sprint in Hochfilzen.

– Nine hits today I’m still happy with, says Samuelsson in SVT.
At the same time, Martin Ponsilouma took his best position of the season.

Sebastian Samuelsson has started the season well, and has been one of the frontrunners in the tracks. However, the shooter has been weaker and dragged him down the results list.

Samuelsson’s success

But in the chase start in Östersund, Samuelsson finally took his first World Cup victory of the season. During Friday it was time for the next competition, this time the sprint in Hochfilzen in Austria.

Then Samuelsson followed up the success in Östersund by coming third. Despite a boom in the horizontal shooting, the 26-year-old, as so often this season, was able to make up for it in the track.
– There are two Norwegians who are pushing hard and riding well, but it’s a good race from my side, says Samuelsson in SVT’s broadcast after the sprint.

Ponsilouma’s best

Martin Ponsiluoma he too only missed one (in the prone shot) and came in an impressive fourth place. His best World Cup placing of the season.
– It is impressive! Once again he (Samuelsson) shows a top performance and it’s fun that Ponsiluoma is there sniffing the podium, says Bjorn Ferry in SVT.

Ponsilouma’s success comes after previous hip injury problems.
– I’m incredibly satisfied, and I have Sebastian to thank for giving me a good ride there on the second lap (on the back of Samuelsson). It feels better than I should be, so I’m very positive, it’s fun to compete, says Ponsilouma.

The Norwegians won

Won did Tarjei Bö and second came Sturla Holm Campsite, after both have fired fully. Bö came ten seconds ahead of Samuelsson.
Johannes Thignes Böwho last season was the man to beat in the sprint, ended up outside the top ten.

Oscar Brandt missed four times and came out of the top 40.
