Sebastian Samuelsson opens up about the difficult times – has now changed the plan completely: “It won’t be like that”

Sebastian Samuelsson has missed the last three competitions in the World Cup.
Then the biathlete changes his plan.
– But it can still be good, says Samuelsson to SVT.

Sebastian Samuelsson started the season well, especially in the track. In all the competitions he has participated in, the 26-year-old has been at the top when it comes to ride time. The shooting has been a bit slow for him at times, but Samuelsson has still taken a win and a third place this season.

“Dull and dreary”

One of Sebastian’s pre-season goals was to challenge for the overall World Cup, and with the fine form he showed in the opening stages, it looked very possible. But then the biathlete contracted covid-19, and missed three competitions due to the illness.

Samuelsson has now recovered and is training during Christmas and New Year to be able to return to competition in January. Then as tenth in the overall World Cup.
– Of course it is very boring and sad. I’ve had a great start, and it’s going fast. Now I miss three competitions here, and if you count it like that – I would win all the competitions and Johannes Thingnes Bö am second in all the remaining competitions, I still won’t win the overall World Cup, says the 26-year-old to SVT.

Samuelsson’s plan

Samuelsson still has a WC to look forward to, but it will therefore be tough to reach the goal of the overall World Cup.
– But it’s nothing I can do anything about, but I’ve done everything I can to stay healthy and unfortunately I got sick, and so it is. You have to think that it is still early in the season and a lot of things can still happen in the future, there are others who can get sick too, says Samuelsson to the channel’s website.

The basic plan for “Sebbe” now during the Christmas break was actually to run high-altitude training in Livigno and then train in Seefeld. But after the corona infection, the plan was changed to go straight to Seefeld.
– Even though I’m someone who often feels a little heavier at altitude, I can usually get in very good shape after I’ve been at altitude. I think it would have been really fun to have that boost in January. Now it won’t be like that, but it can still be good, says Samuelsson.
