The Sweden Democrats demand that funding for the judiciary be increased by SEK 20 billion by 2026.

The money is to be used, among other things, to increase the number of police officers to 30,000.

SD leader Jimmie Åkesson visited Eskilstuna on Tuesday. There, a mother and her child were injured in a shooting last Friday.

Åkesson singles out investment in the judiciary as the most important priority for a new government.

The party already proposed last spring that the allocations to the police, prosecutors, courts and other parts of the judiciary must gradually increase during the next mandate period so that the annual level will be SEK 20 billion higher than today.

SD wants that money to be used, among other things, for Sweden to have 30,000 police officers. For example, the party wants to attract with paid police training and a special salary investment to attract back those who have left the profession.

In the long term, SD’s goal is for Sweden to have 350 police officers per 100,000 inhabitants.

The current government’s goal is to reach roughly 38,200 police employees in 2024. The police aim for 26,200 of them to be police officers and the rest civilian employees. At the end of last year, Sweden had around 22,000 police officers.

SD also wants, for example, to use the increased funding to expand the National Forensic Center, to greatly increase camera surveillance in society, including drones in vulnerable areas, and to double the number of prison and remand places. In order to quickly increase the number of prison places, SD wants to rent at least 500 places abroad.
