Scorching criticism of the care for the elderly in Älvsbyn

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

– The fact that elderly people at the end of life do not receive the care and treatment they are entitled to is serious. As the municipality is responsible for the medical care within special housing for the elderly up to nurse level, it is also the municipality that is responsible for the deficiencies being remedied, says Anna Karin Nyqvist, head of unit at IVO.

The shortcomings of the nursing homes in Älvsbyn are as follows, according to the authority’s review:

  • The staff who make medical assessments do not have sufficient competence for the task and do not have sufficient command of the Swedish language.
  • The documentation is lacking and there is a lack of sufficient continuity in the personnel group.
  • Medicines are not handled in a patient-safe manner.
  • End-of-life care does not take place in accordance with current regulations.
  • “Difficult to recruit staff”

Älvsbyn municipality must report to IVO by April 4, 2023 at the latest what measures it intends to take.

    – We have just received the decision and we have some points that we have to work on. We may not have solved all the problems by April, but we should be able to present a plan until then. One of the problems we have is that we cannot recruit enough qualified staff for the temporary jobs we have, says Robert Cortinovis, social director of Älvsbyn municipality.
