Sci Fi hit celebrates the downfall in a disturbing visually

Many cinema fans know Tom Hiddleston primarily as the insidious trickster Loki from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who the MCU star in one of his best and most insane roles wants to experience has the opportunity to do so tonight on TV.

Then the visually stunning sci-fi dystopia High-Rise by Ben Wheatley, based on the cult novel by JG Ballard, will be shown at 11:35 p.m. on 3sat. In the film one falls class society isolated from the outside world increasingly insane.

High-Rise celebrates the apocalypse with hypnotically disturbing imagery

In the plot of Ben Wheatley’s adaptation, the more affluent society has isolated itself from the outside world in gigantic high-rise buildings and formed its own class society over numerous floors. But even here, more and more one is emerging Gap between the richer people at the top and the poorer people below. At some point the doctor Dr. Robert Laing (Tom Hiddleston) amid decadence between the fronts.

With cool, impressive images, High-Rise is dedicated to several figures from the individual layers of the skyscraper. What begins as an entertaining social satire slowly builds into one apocalyptic tripin which the alternative system collapses more and more.

With the help of surreal montages in music video style and a soundtrack somewhere between classic and Portishead, the sci-fi hit becomes a shapely excess. Wheatley eventually takes the concept to the extreme, celebrating anarchy as glorious change. This is how high-rise becomes a dark intoxication that Decline of civilization with a smiling face heralds. At the very end, nothing remains but final madness and bursting soap bubbles.
