Sci-Fi film with one of the best doomsday scenarios – an absolute classic

Sci Fi film with one of the best doomsday scenarios –

In the mid-1990s, the Hale-Bopp comet caused fear that an object could reach the Earth and wipe out all life on it once and for all. In addition to Armageddon, the very similar Deep Impact in 1998 also took up this topic and used dramatic images to show what such a global catastrophe might look like. The sci-fi film is on TV today.

That’s what Deep Impact is about, the doomsday classic that’s on TV today

That the Earth is about to be hit by a cometis only discovered by chance. Then everything has to happen very quickly: US President Tom Beck (Morgan Freeman) turns to humanity and announces that gigantic protective bunkers and the largest spaceship in the world have been built.

While the spaceship with a crew led by Robert Duvall sets out to to redirect the cometthe people on Earth who will be allowed into the bunkers are to be determined. Because they only have room for one million people. In the midst of this chaos, two teenagers in love and a reporter who has problems with her father have to find their way.

Deep Impact is on TV tonight.

There is hardly a more classic end-of-the-world drama than in this sci-fi film

Deep Impact came to cinemas at a very unfortunate time. Only two months later, Michael Bay’s much more action-packed spectacle Armageddon was released. In a direct comparison, Deep Impact lost out, but on its own the film is still pretty impressive.

Even if the effects are no longer particularly groundbreaking to look at, the interpersonal dramas are excellent. In the midst of a global disaster, Deep Impact still finds the opportunity to focus on quieter tones and more personal moments.

A similarly classic disaster thriller has now been revived for the big screen. Twisters is a really thrilling film that won’t let you catch your breath until the end.
