Scholarship available for future filmmakers

Chatham-Kent high school students who plan to pursue an education in film will have a chance to receive financial support towards the cost of tuition.

The Chatham-Kent Film Group has opened applications for its 2023 scholarship award, which has a value of as much as $1,000.

The scholarship is available to current secondary school students in Chatham-Kent applying to a post-secondary school, pursuing a bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, master of arts or diploma in film studies, cinematic studies or media studies.

Eligible students must write a brief essay of 500 words or less on their aspirations in film and fill out an accompanying application form, which can be requested by emailing Jerry Corso at [email protected].

The deadline to apply is April 28 and submissions can be made to [email protected].

Applicants must also participate in an interview with film group staff to discuss their education.

The recipient or recipients will be notified by telephone or email by the end of May. They will be introduced at the June film showing this year.

The funds will be released once the film group receives confirmation of registration from a post-secondary institution for the fall semester.

The recipient will also be required to email a summary of their first year in post-secondary education to [email protected].
