Scarlett Johansson’s kinkiest film had to be censored to avoid being classified as an adult film – and it’s still worth it

Scarlett Johanssons kinkiest film had to be censored to avoid

In addition to her big Marvel role as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson has starred in a wide variety of films. The sexually rude movie with her in a supporting role is Don Jon by and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The comedy about a macho porn addict is an absolute insider tip. Incidentally, at that time there were so many real porn clips in the film that the scissors had to be applied in favor of a lower age rating.

Scarlett Johansson’s dirtiest film combines humor with serious overtones

In the story, which also marks Gordon-Levitt’s feature film directorial debut, he plays the playboy Jon, who regularly has one-night stands. For him, sex is not an alternative for his insatiable porn addiction. Torn between Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) and Esther (Julianne Moore), he finds himself in an ever-increasing emotional chaos.

Gordon-Levitt turned this story into a really entertaining (tragic) comedy that scores with many funny scenes. Even though the director overdraws the main character he plays from the start, his Jon slowly acquires more complex facets.

Porn addiction comedy Don Jon was too rough at first

Due to the protagonist’s porn addiction, Don Jon also features some clips from real videos of this type. In the beginning, however, the director overdid it and interspersed so many porn scenes that the film had to be cut again before it was released in cinemas.

Otherwise, Don Jon would have received an NC-17 clearance. In the USA, this corresponds to the highest age limitwho otherwise only get real porn movies. After trimming some of those clips, which didn’t detract one bit from the fun factor of Don Jon, the comedy finally got an R rating. With us the film is released from 16 years.
