Sarah Sjöström’s great anger – the honest words after the scandal that sent the whole swimming world into a frenzy: “It’s really scary”

It is the scandal that has caused the entire swimming world to boil.
Now Sarah Sjöström is also reacting.
– It’s very scary, she tells Expressen.

Earlier in the spring, a real bomb dropped in the skiing world, about a scandal that should have happened during the 2021 Olympics. According to the New York Times, which made a big disclosure together with other newspapers in Europe, as many as 23 Chinese swimmers should have tested positive for doping, only seven months before the Tokyo Olympics, but no one was suspended.

All tested positive for the heart medication trimetazidine, which improves the body’s endurance. As many as 13 out of 23 swimmers, despite having tested positive, were allowed to swim in the Olympics, and two also won gold. In addition, it has taken a full three years for the entire story to be revealed, which has sent the entire swimming world into a frenzy.

Now Sarah Sjöström is also reacting to the scandal, and she believes that the strangest thing is how it was completely hushed up.

– I think everything seems really creepy, strange. It’s sad how they handled it, says Sarah Sjöström to Expressen, and continues:

– I think it is strange that it has taken so long for this to come to light. This was three years ago.

“Need to find out”

China’s anti-doping agency has explained the positive tests as having been contaminated. But it is something that Sarah Sjöström finds difficult to buy.

– What are the chances that so many people are affected in the same hotel. I can’t tell you what to do about it other than you just want to know more. And I think many people agree with that, she says.

The US anti-doping organization, Usada, is now demanding that an independent investigation be added to the case, something Sarah Sjöström supports.

– It feels like someone needs to look into it, someone needs to find out why it has been quiet for so long, says the star.
