Säpo’s new terrorist attack in Tyresö: Looking for weapons

Säpo calls the four detainees a group within the violent Islamist extremist environment.

The men, who are aged 20-25, are suspected of serious weapons offenses since March 1. Two of them have connections to a criminal network in Tyresö. The other two are brothers who converted to Islam and are also in custody for preparation for terrorist crimes. The criminal plans are said to have started at the beginning of December last year.

– There is an international context in the form of a connection to the Islamic State in Somalia, said Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg, press secretary at Säpo, earlier.

TV4 Nyheterna has previously been able to reveal that Säpo’s secret terror surveillance has been going on since September, something that was preceded by an intelligence operation. They decided to strike and arrest the men shortly after the intelligence service discovered that the group was “handling a weapon”.

Searched for terrorist weapons at new address

The terrorist arrests were made by the national task force on the afternoon of March 7 after a coordinated crackdown on several addresses in Tyresö.

The following evening, at 22:00 on March 8, Säpo struck again at a multi-family house in the municipality – linked to the terror investigation.

– The security police carried out a number of measures with the support of the Police Authority in the Tyresö area, said Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg shortly after the operation.

Säpo has not wanted to comment further on the crackdown. But TV4 Nyheterna can now say that they were looking for weapons at an address that can be linked to the suspects.

Intensive Soap Investigation: “Comprehensive”

Before the house search, Säpo called in the Stockholm police’s special search dogs, which are focused on finding firearms. They then went through several spaces in the building.

– The preliminary investigation continues and within the framework of it investigative measures have been, and continue to be, taken. There is preliminary investigation secrecy and the Security Police is not in a position to go into more detail about what those measures are or what they are aimed at, says the authority’s press secretary Adam Isaksson Samara.

Säpo does not want to say whether any weapons were found, but says that they are analyzing “a lot of seizures” and that the preliminary investigation is extensive and intensive.

Even prosecutor Lars Hedvall at the National Security Unit is reticent.

– The case is ongoing and there is pre-investigation confidentiality and a ban on disclosure. I therefore cannot comment.
