Samuli Samuelsson ran a new Finnish record for 100 meters with 10.12 in Kuortane.

The tailwind was 0.9 meters per second, which means that the race was contested in clear permitted conditions. Last week in Espoo, Samuelsson surpassed his previous Finnish record of 10.16.

The competition is really tough for the Finnish chamber.

of the United States Cravont Charleston won with his own record of 9.90. of Great Britain Oliver Bromby too set his own record in the same time as Samuelsson.

Samuli Samuelsson spoke after his record in a calm tone at ‘s interview station.

– It feels incredible. The coaches didn’t say for nothing that they believe it will be better than the previous Finnish record, Samuelsson stated.

Coach Mikael Ylöstalo was at Samuelsson’s place right after the run. According to the SE man, Ylöstalo had guessed the time correctly earlier in the day.

– He stated that he should have told someone that today will be 10,12. He had remembered such a time. He was right, Samuelsson described.

Samuelsson praised Kuortanene’s pitch. Now it was still 26 degrees warm and 0.9 meters per second tailwind.

– I knew that I’m always good in downwind races, but it’s quite difficult to say that I really believed in this. Everything went smoothly, Samuelsson said.

Earlier in the week, Samuelsson was quieter than usual in Turku. Samuelsson ran 10.38 in the Paavo Nurme Games on Tuesday. Samuelsson had gone to Kuortane with a different attitude.

– I wanted to do too much running alone. In Paavo Nurme’s games, I squeezed too much. I was able to run to the end comfortably. That’s why the time was so good, Samuelsson analysed.

The Kuortanene audience gave Samuelsson a standing ovation for the Finnish record.

– It felt great. I have never received such applause before, Samuelsson said.

According to Ylöstalo, the idea of reading 10,12 came on the way to Kuortane.

– When that thought hits one hundredth, it’s incomprehensible, Ylöstalo admitted.

According to Ylöstalo, this was perhaps the worst end Samuelsson has ever seen in a 100 meter race.

– The beginning of the run has started to work clearly better than at the end of the season. I’ve just been waiting for the rest to take off. I knew there were good conditions here today. Samuli is an absolutely fantastic downwind runner. He can make the most of the downwind, Ylöstalo analyzes the run.

According to Ylöstalo, Samuelsson can still take a piece off the Finnish record if the conditions are as great and as much effort as Kuortane had on Saturday.

– Don’t run times like this against the wind and in the rain, emphasized Ylöstalo, who coached Samuelsson for five years.
